Initial Approval of the Zorrotzaurre Special Plan

09/11/2011

On November 9th, the Bilbao City Council gave initial approval to the Special Plan for the Urban Organisation of the Zorrotzaurre Area. Once approval is published in the Official Provincial Gazette of Bizkaia, the 45 day public exhibition of the documents of the plan will commence.

The Special Plan of Zorrotzaurre includes the construction of 5,473 dwellings (2,747 publicly-controlled units and 2,726 private units) and 201,360m2 of buildings for economic activity, which will, in the future, help to create around 6,000 jobs.

Two thirds of the land covered by the Plan will have public usage, which includes 155,893m2 of open spaces and 84,936m2 in plots for public buildings. To this can be added the 213,441m2 of the new Deusto Canal after its opening up.

The Special Plan, while respecting the Zaha Hadid Master Plan, incorporates agreements on a reduction in the number of bridges and the elimination of the filling-in of zones of the Deusto Canal in the San Ignacio area.
