The engineering firm Idom today officially inaugurated its new headquarters building. Located in the lower San Ignacio area next to the Deusto Canal, its groundbreaking design and green colour represent the first finished building of the Zorrotzaurre urban renewal project.

The inauguration, presided over by Idom’s Chairman, Fernando Querejeta, was attended by around 1,000 guests including the Mayor of Bilbao, Iñaki Azkuna, and the Leader of the Bizkaia Provincial Council, José Luis Bilbao.

The new building, finished in barely one year, is faithful to the concept of maintaining the industrial heritage of Zorrotzaurre through renovation of the old bonded warehouse. Project design was by the architecture division of Idom itself (ACXT).

With an investment of €30 million, the building is characterised by the incorporation of the latest technologies in order to achieve maximum energy efficiency.

With almost 15,000m2 of surface spread over 5 floors, at the end of last June, nearly 700 staff were working in the building (almost one third of the total Idom payroll). However, the capacity of the building will eventually allow that number to rise to 1,000.
