DigiPen, the videogame university, commences activities in Zorrotzaurre

18/09/2018

DigiPen, colloquially known as “the videogame university”, has kicked off the 2018-2019 academic year at its new location in Zorrotzaurre.

The centre, which has moved from its previous facilities in Zierbena where it had been delivering specialised courses for eight years, begins the new academic year with a student body of 200 from fourteen different countries on the two undergraduate degree courses it offers.

DigiPen has a 100% graduate employment rate and the centre has set itself a growth target of 75% in the first three years at its new premises.

DigiPen has leased facilities in the former Beta 1 building in Zorrotzaurre. These premises have been refurbished by Bilbao City Hall at a cost of €2.3 million.

Beta 1, located at no. 2 de Ribera de Zorrotzaurre, is one of the 19 industrial buildings retained under the Zorrotzaurre regeneration project. Built in 1951, it was designed by the industrial engineer Juan José Abrisqueta.

The centre will be officially opened on 10 October next in a ceremony chaired by the mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto.
